Bulgarian Villages you must visit

Bulgarian Villages

Bulgarian villages are some of the most beautiful ones you can come across anywhere in the world. The country has a rich history that can be traced back to the Thracian, Roman, and Byzantine era. It has some of the most diverse topography with beautiful mountain ranges, sea, and rich plains.

The traditional Bulgarian villages were built in harmony with nature, using all natural resources. Unfortunately, most of these villages are turning to ghost towns with the younger generation moving to greener pastures leaving the country or moving to cities or bigger towns. One can totally understand them wanting to be a part of the modern world.

But, recently, after the covid wave there is a small reverse exodus with people wanting to move back to villages and try to be sustainable yet connected to the cities. The result being, villages closer to the cities or easily accessible from cities are seeing families moving there. Hopefully, this helps the economy as well as brings life back to these villages which have stood the test of time.

In the next article, we will dissect the reverse exodus and whether this is something that should be promoted across the globe? In the meantime, take a look at The art capital of Bulgaria, Veliko Tarnovo.
